Encouragement means to simply GIVE someone courage.

Consider just how powerful it could be to GIVE someone courage:

GIVES positive energy – Encouragement literally means to GIVE people courage.  So, encouragement is like GIVING some a mental and emotional boost of energy which lifts them up and propels them into action.

GIVES people hope – when people are down, their thoughts are cluttered with doubt, distractions, and discouragement.  When we encourage, we GIVE them hope for a brighter tomorrow.  We never know just how much our encouragement might mean to someone who’s feeling down.

GIVES people confidence – often times we appreciate the talents and strengths in others, but they lose sight of just how special and talented they are.  When we encourage people, they’re reminded of their special and unique talents and they lean into them.

Encouragement reminds us just how special, unique, and talented we are.

When we remember how much potential we have, we’re more likely to have the courage and confidence to keep going, keep doing our best, and keep leaning into who we know we are and what we’re capable of accomplishing. 

That’s the magic of encouragement.  Not only do others gain courage, confidence, and hope when we encourage them, but we also feel uplifted as well, as the encourager!  

It’s truly a gift to both the person we’re encouraging and to us, as the encourager.

A practical application for the road:

List the names of two of your friends.  For each friend write down and commit to GIVING each of them the following encouragement:

–Recognize them for their greatest strengths – let them know their two greatest strengths or qualities you appreciate the most.

–Remind them of what they’ve accomplished – remind them of at least one past accomplishment – i.e. – a good grade, a win in a sport, a piece of art, etc.

–Encourage them to never lose sight of what’s possible for their future because of the strengths and accomplishments you’ve pointed out.
