The VAK learning model divides people into three categories of learner:

-Visual learners – absorb information by sight

-Auditory learners – absorb information by sound

-Kinesthetic learners – absorb information by moving 

People predominantly learn using one style – whether visual, auditory or kinesthetic. Though every learner often incorporates elements of the other two styles, they are likely to achieve maximum benefit from learning by focusing on their primary style.

Visual learners absorb information primarily by seeing it, or by visualizing it mentally. 

Visual Learners:

-Love graphs, maps, diagrams, flowcharts and written instructions

-Find themselves easily distracted by visual stimuli such as sitting beside a window or being bombarded with pop-ups on a computer

Auditory learners absorb information primarily by hearing it. 

Auditory Learners:

-Love verbal instructions and follow them easily

-Would rather record a lesson or lecture than take notes

Kinesthetic learners absorb information primarily through movement in a physical way. 

Kinesthetic Learners:

-Enjoy expressing themselves physically and may engage in performing arts or dance

-Excel at practical subjects such as construction, cooking and engineering

Why is this important, in the context of GIVING Encouragement to others?  

When and if we seek to understand how our friends, family members, peers, teammates, and coworkers prefer to process information, we can teach, coach, and share ideas with them in the ways they prefer to receive them.
