The Skills4Tourism initiative encourages tourism stakeholders throughout Europe to participate in a new survey assessing current and future skill requirements in the sector. The findings will inform the development of training programs, workforce initiatives, and policy suggestions that support Europe's green and digital transition in tourism.

The future competitiveness of European tourism will rely not just on destinations, infrastructure, and innovation, but also on people. As the sector adapts to digital changes, sustainability demands, and evolving visitor expectations, identifying future skills needs has become a key strategic goal. To aid this effort, the Skills4Tourism initiative has initiated a new survey, encouraging tourism professionals, businesses, destination management organisations, public authorities, educational institutions, and industry representatives to share their insights on the skills required in the coming years.

This survey is part of broader European efforts to enhance the tourism workforce and adapt training and education systems to the sector's changing demands. Its results will help identify skill gaps, emerging competencies, and key areas for future investment in tourism training and professional growth. Special focus is on skills related to the green and digital transitions. Competencies like sustainability management, digital tools, innovation, data literacy, resilience, and adaptability are increasingly vital for tourism professionals at all levels. As destinations and businesses aim for greater sustainability and competitiveness, workforce development becomes crucial for success. This initiative supports the EU Tourism Transition Pathway, which emphasises skills and capacity-building as essential for strengthening the long-term resilience of European tourism. By gathering input from stakeholders, the survey seeks to ensure future policies and training meet actual industry needs and challenges.

As Europe continues to develop its vision for sustainable, resilient and competitive tourism, stakeholder participation remains crucial. The more diverse the responses, the better the resulting recommendations will reflect the realities of tourism across different destinations, businesses and regions.

Tourism professionals and organisations are therefore encouraged to take part and contribute their expertise. The survey requires only a short amount of time, but can help influence future tourism skills policies and training opportunities at the European level.
