The European Commission, through its Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, has launched a public consultation and a call for evidence to gather input from citizens, travellers, and tourism stakeholders on the forthcoming EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy.

The strategy aims to enhance sustainability in the European tourism sector by addressing issues such as overcrowding, promoting environmentally friendly options, improving digital services, and facilitating cross-border travel. It also seeks to support Member States in improving coordination, accessing support mechanisms, and increasing the sector’s resilience to challenges such as climate change and geopolitical developments.

The consultation invites feedback on how the proposed strategy aligns with EU goals, the current challenges facing the tourism industry, the priorities outlined in the strategy, and the essential elements that should be included in a comprehensive approach.

From 20 June 2025 to 12 September 2025, feedback is welcomed from national, regional, and local authorities (including Destination Management Organisations), EU Member States and accession countries, international and sectoral organisations (including those in culture, heritage, sport, and development), large companies, platforms, SMEs, NGOs, tourists, and the general public. Contributions can be submitted through both the public consultation and the call for evidence.
